Job Description

Manages the activities of production personnel in the manufacturing and packaging of products by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates. Directs and coordinates activities of ResinLab to obtain optimum efficiency and economy of operations and maximize profits. Plans, develops, and establishes policies and objectives for the business organization. Responsible for employee satisfaction, training, development, engagement and retention.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Schedule work flow through the production area. Set schedules for formulation, packaging and finishing. Handle all expedites in the system and insure their timely completion. Provide dates to Customer Service regarding expedites and regularly scheduled items. Establish or adjust work schedule to meet production demands.
  • Ensure all production data is properly tracked. Enter and track down time for employees into ERP system. Analyze and take action on any down time issues as they arise or alert the Operations Manager.
  • Provide timely updates and consistent communication to other departments.   Ensure the on-time delivery spreadsheet and Navision job status are updated daily.
  • Monitor inventory levels for supplies and raw materials and enter purchase orders when necessary. Provide recommendations for inventory level changes and disposal of excess stock.
  • Work on the costing of ResinLab batches for an accurate labor cost of all jobs and handle all cost roll-ups. Estimate production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Propose and implement lean and 5S initiatives throughout all production and office processes.
  • Analyze and plan work force utilization, space requirements, workflow, layout of equipment, and workspace for maximum efficiency. Regularly assess products and processes to continuously reduce operating costs and improve product quality.
  • Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods. Ensure product scale up is done effectively and manufacturing processes are profitable and capable of meeting on-going product quality specifications.
  • Assure process or product adheres to the company quality program and plans by performing audits and recommending corrective actions. Develop new techniques to reduce losses and improve quality.
  • Considers safety throughout the operation a top priority. Takes direction from and works with the safety committee. Responsible for the continuing education of employees in the area of safety and hazardous materials.
  • Participates in recruitment preparation/job scoping, reviews resumes, interviews and selects candidates to ensure the department is fully staffed in cooperation with Human Resources.
  • Develops, implements, maintains, and revises, effective training documentation and schedules for every position in the department.
  • Ensures that trainees and news hires receive ongoing feedback regarding performance and receive written bi-weekly training reviews. Ensures that training for all subordinates is up to date and maintains a schedule for refresher training as needed per the training database.
  • Evaluates employee performance for productivity and quality. Addresses employee conduct and performance issues in a consistent and timely manner.
  • Prepares documentation as appropriate. Administers disciplinary action and performance improvement plans ensuring performance standards are met and enforcing all company policy and procedures, in cooperation with Human Resources.
  • Completes reviews (mid-year and year end) for all subordinates.
  • Resolves employee issues or submits unsettled issues to the Operations Manager for action.
  • Manages employee’s time; reviews, updates and approves employee time cards and ensures accuracy.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises all production employees including clerks, mixer operators and packagers. Individual carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

 

Job Requirements

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree from a four year college and 5+ years of related industrial experience and/or training, preferably managing production employees in an adhesive (epoxy, silicone or polyurethane) or chemical manufacturing environment. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered as equivalent at the discretion of Human Resources and the hiring Manager.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully individuals must be proficient on a personal computer and have knowledge of Accounting Software, Database Software, Internet Software, Inventory Software, Manufacturing Software, Order Processing Systems, Spreadsheet Software and Word Processing Software.
