Job Description


The Buyer – Tactical reports directly to the Purchasing Manager and will act as the system expert within the Buyer roles.  This role requires a technical knowledge sufficient to deal with problems concerning materials, shelf-life, order placement, and overall customer satisfaction.  The Buyer – Tactical will need to function as part of Buying team to ensure complete coverage of the overall category and Suppliers managed by the team.  Additionally, the Buyer – Tactical actively supports continuous improvement efforts and is a resource in both knowledge and experience for the department.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Overall responsibility for the day to day system functions of the Ellsworth ERP system in regards to material order placement.
  • Ownership of the PO process:
  • Placement of daily POs as well as entering any PO changes. This also includes ownership of production orders, rentals/repairs, and any other function having to do with placing standard/daily POs.
  • Receiving acknowledgement from Suppliers upon receipt of PO.
  • Communication of any delays in orders
  • Updating the overdue report tracking delivery dates
  • Act as the main source of information for any order entry issues as well as the reporting out of any PO placement related reports
  • Responsible for the maintenance of Supplier information within the system as well as updating and entering Inventory Management Program information.
  • Resolve any issues in regards to documentation of product this may include missing documentation on outbound shipments, inbound Supplier documentation, re-certification of product, receiving approval of low shelf-life items, etc.
  • Responsible for the disposition and ownership of discrepancies this will include both product non-conformance and Accounts Payable disputes.
  • Will work within the Buyer – Tactical team to become a Subject Matter Expert within their role. Will also be involved in forming and conducting the training for any individuals within the team and be responsible for any JWIs within this function.
  • Perform general office duties and other related functions, as required by the Purchasing Manager.

Education and/or Experience 

Associate's degree (college or technical) and 2+ years of related industrial experience and/or training.  Other combinations of education and experience may be considered as equivalent at the discretion of Human Resources and the hiring manager.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully individuals must be proficient on a personal computer and have knowledge of ERP Systems, Database Software, Intelex, Distribution Systems, Internet Software, Inventory Software, Order Processing Systems, Spreadsheet Software and Word Processing Software.


Other Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
